How do you change what comes up first when your name is Googled?

I have a business associate who is not happy with what comes up first when his company is entered into a Google search. Any idea how to bump that site down and get others to be on top?
How do you change what comes up first when your name is Googled?
You cannot bump anyone elses result down, but there are strategies to bump a site up.

Besides the inclusion of several key words in the sites content, a website's code will include a %26quot;meta%26quot; That is a paragraph of code, at, or near the top that contains a description of the site. If a software us used to design the site, such as Adobe Pagemaker or one of the newer ones, that information is included in the meta.

If your associate can work with the webmaster who designed the site, additional information can be included in the meta which makes the site more %26quot;relevant%26quot; to a search engine.

Example, if the site is about motorcycles, the meta can include a long list of words that might relate to motorcycles, such as, motorcycle, motorbike, two wheeler, Honda, Harley, Kawasaki, Ducatti, racing, touring, highways, freedom, american, wheels, vacation, easy rider, biker, tattoo, Marlon Brando, Peter Fonda, four stroke, two stroke.

You get the idea. A search engine reads the meta, first to find search results with the most relevancy. The only thing you can buy from Google is the ad space that appears on the top and at the side of the results page.
