How do you change the domain on Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003?

I've got SBS2003 running on a server. When we set it up we used a xxxx.local domain and that's not what I want anymore. I want to run it as a normal domain (a different one than is used right now) and I'm not sure how to change it other than starting over with a new reinstall which I think is a bad idea. So, can I make some changes to point the server to a new domain name that will change Exchange, Sharepoint, etc.? I'm trying to make it so that I can have a Sharepoint website be external (http://www.xxxx.com/sharepoint or something) and also change the domain that Exchange references. I used to have a business and that's the domain that's being used but now I want to change it to something else. Any help is appreciated.

HE above suggests correct information, what i would do is clone the hard drive to another (incase it messes up you have it ready to work again)

put away the cloned drive (if smaller put away the internal drive and put the cloned drive in the same way as the internal drive was put, jumpers cable positions etc)

boot up and login

un-install domain

pop in the install disk (if it is older than the version of windows installed, boot from it)

do an upgrade if u can in windows

if u cant, boot it up, it should look for previous versions of software (windows) press r to %26quot;%26quot;repair%26quot;%26quot; also known as (upgrade with diff name) it will look like a normal install but slightly less things to set

when it finished start it up and re-create the domain and youll have everything else you had installed and configured alls u need to do is the domain and your up and running..

personally though i wouldnt preffer a crippled server os, if you really needed somthing that works the way it should (if u didnt need the support) id buy windows 2000 server , its not as crippled as sbs and its one of those %26quot;few questions and it chuggs away doing what its told%26quot; , ive created active directories before now in my home %26quot;testing of course (legal reasons)%26quot;

and it works well, but what i find best is it %26quot;%26quot;does not%26quot;%26quot; have that %26quot;why did you shut me down, tell me now or you aint going anywhere%26quot; type of questions

there is ways to remove that but really... save yourself money buy either a less cripples m$ os

or concider linux

id preffer the linux as its free and you get to modify every single bit of it, from the logos to how it works and looks, lol and if u could program you could SELL it also lol

but thats another story lol

hope that helps you in some way bud,

You don't have a lot of options with SBS - it's crippled in a way that restricts you from renaming the domain after the installation.

However, if all you are concerned about is Sharepoint and Exchange, you can configure those applications to accept connections that are in DNS as a different domain.
