How do you change the domain on Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003?

I've got SBS2003 running on a server. When we set it up we used a xxxx.local domain and that's not what I want anymore. I want to run it as a normal domain (a different one than is used right now) and I'm not sure how to change it other than starting over with a new reinstall which I think is a bad idea. So, can I make some changes to point the server to a new domain name that will change Exchange, Sharepoint, etc.? I'm trying to make it so that I can have a Sharepoint website be external (http://www.xxxx.com/sharepoint or something) and also change the domain that Exchange references. I used to have a business and that's the domain that's being used but now I want to change it to something else. Any help is appreciated.

HE above suggests correct information, what i would do is clone the hard drive to another (incase it messes up you have it ready to work again)

put away the cloned drive (if smaller put away the internal drive and put the cloned drive in the same way as the internal drive was put, jumpers cable positions etc)

boot up and login

un-install domain

pop in the install disk (if it is older than the version of windows installed, boot from it)

do an upgrade if u can in windows

if u cant, boot it up, it should look for previous versions of software (windows) press r to %26quot;%26quot;repair%26quot;%26quot; also known as (upgrade with diff name) it will look like a normal install but slightly less things to set

when it finished start it up and re-create the domain and youll have everything else you had installed and configured alls u need to do is the domain and your up and running..

personally though i wouldnt preffer a crippled server os, if you really needed somthing that works the way it should (if u didnt need the support) id buy windows 2000 server , its not as crippled as sbs and its one of those %26quot;few questions and it chuggs away doing what its told%26quot; , ive created active directories before now in my home %26quot;testing of course (legal reasons)%26quot;

and it works well, but what i find best is it %26quot;%26quot;does not%26quot;%26quot; have that %26quot;why did you shut me down, tell me now or you aint going anywhere%26quot; type of questions

there is ways to remove that but really... save yourself money buy either a less cripples m$ os

or concider linux

id preffer the linux as its free and you get to modify every single bit of it, from the logos to how it works and looks, lol and if u could program you could SELL it also lol

but thats another story lol

hope that helps you in some way bud,

You don't have a lot of options with SBS - it's crippled in a way that restricts you from renaming the domain after the installation.

However, if all you are concerned about is Sharepoint and Exchange, you can configure those applications to accept connections that are in DNS as a different domain.

How hard it is to add a businees name?

Can I add a business name? Does it cost anything? Do I have to change all my documents like passport and driver's license? Or is this something seperate? Can it be anything I want?
How hard it is to add a businees name?
As a sole trader you can effectively trade as you like, however where it becomes more difficult is when you get a cheque made payable to your business/trading name. Therefore if you want to trade as xxx, then get your bank account changed to state %26quot;your name t/a xxx%26quot; then you will be able to accept payment as either name or both.

As far as trading name, then just make sure it isn't something that is the same as someone else locally or a limited company/registered trademark, for example you wouldn't want to trade as woolworths - they might take offence!!

Try and make it simple and either relevant to your customers or to you.

Is yours a sole proprietor? Under most circumstances, you have to either get another %26quot;DBA%26quot; Doing Business As, or file another Trade Name. A lot depends on what rules the state or county you live in and their rules.

Go to the web site of your state, and check around under the business area. Try the SBA web site www.sba.org it is a great source. Finally there are a couple websites that have good info on this type of question:

In my state California, I have to file for a new name. Only $7 I think.

Good luck in your biz!!!!!!

Does Anyone know how to change your yahoo mailing address?

I am no longer operating under my old business name and I would love to change my email to something closer to my actual name.....any ideas how to do this?? If not, is it possible to close an existing account and start a new one??

Many thanks for the help!
Does Anyone know how to change your yahoo mailing address?
Yes, you must register a new name. No way to change the old one.
Does Anyone know how to change your yahoo mailing address?
youy have to create a new profile, then you will have an additional address as well as the old one, or you can delete the old one
Go to %26quot;my account%26quot; option on yahoo and revise your info from there.

normally, if you stop checking your email, the provider (yahoo) will eventually de-activate your account.

Just apply for a new oe is the easiest way. Just print-out your address book so you can transfer your contacts.
it possible to close the yahoo mail id . and you can have nice name also.

Looking for a lawyer who only does changes in business paperwork what is the name of the type of lawye?

my friend owns a business and she and her family want to make some changes of signatures and stuff of that nature. They need a lawyer to help them make those changes. How do I find that type of lawyer?
Looking for a lawyer who only does changes in business paperwork what is the name of the type of lawye?
Your friend needs a business law attorney. If you look in your local phone book under the yellow pages, you can look for listings that advertise %26quot;Business Law and Tax%26quot; along with Corporate Formation. But, you could call all the attorneys in your yellow pages and ask if they perform this type of service, and imagine most of them would say they do. If in doubt, you can call a CPA and ask who they would recommend.
Looking for a lawyer who only does changes in business paperwork what is the name of the type of lawye?
Look for a lawyer that specializes in Business Law. Also look in the blue pages of your phone book and look for the nearest office of Internal Revenue Service - Taxpayer Assistance Division. They can help you with the changes for tax purposes, and they might even have free literature on the subject.

My boss doesn't want me to change my name...?

I work on-air in radio. My new husband works the shift after me as an anchor, not just overnight anchor/producer. My boss told me months ago before we got married that it was my business if I switched my on-air name to my new last name.

I get back from the honeymoon and he wants me to keep my maiden name. I told him I am ready to put that part of my life far behind me and do not want association with my maiden name.

He came to our wedding and yes my father was there and pretended the whole proud father role, and while our relationship has improved over the past few years, I am no long a part of him.

I told my boss I intend to honor my marriage and my new last name and USE my new last name. He however thinks it will confuse my listeners... a few have called and congratulated me but so far I don't think anyone has driven off the road.

How do I put my foot down without pi$$ing him off?
My boss doesn't want me to change my name...?
You already told him your intentions. So use your new last name and that's it. This really shouldn't be that much of an issue...
My boss doesn't want me to change my name...?
Go with a hyphenated last name. Like %26quot;Smith-Jones.%26quot; It might sound stupid, but your boss is right that it would confuse the listeners to have the same last name as your co-anchor. He's the boss.
I agree - hyphen your last name. Honestly is apart of show biz.

Like. Did you know that Faith Hill is using her ex husband's last name?

Her 1st hubby's name was Hill. But when she started to become famous, and dumped him she had to keep %26quot;Hill%26quot; because thats what people knew her as.

Your listeners know you as one way.

So by hyphen your last name. Then when you get another position or what ever, drop the maiden name!
Well a name don't make a person, is the person who makes a name.

I mean, if you have the same audience with your changed name and nothing of your rating has changed so far with your married name, I don't think it will be a big deal.

People recognized you by your voice and program, but you can do something involving your boss. Ask him if you can ask to the audience to call you on air and tell you what they think about changing your name. Involve the audience, involve your boss, you can be sure that many people will phone telling that is not your name what they are listening to, but you!

This is a way also (if your boss is worried about it) that people will begin making a relation between your maiden and married name.

Good luck!
Change your name the way you want it. Present it to the boss as a new marketing tool. If most of your listeners know that you and your husband(that works the shift after you) were married or even if they don't, the station can market you as the %26quot;couple of the night%26quot; on the airwaves! You start presenting it to the listeners, on all shows that your still you, just a new name. It's been done so many times, the boss should turn it into something positive for the station. It can be marketed in billboard ads as well as online too!
Stick to your guns, but he's right, it IS going to confuse some of your listeners. I mean, eventually, most of them will finally get it that you got married, but some of them won't!
This is something that is your decision. Your boss shouldn't have an influence on it. Especially considering the history of %26quot;Jackson%26quot; and you wanting to put it behind you.

I'm surprised you use your real name on the radio. Most people don't. Heck, most radio hosts don't even use their real first name. My suggestion is that you maybe only start using your first name... is it a big deal if you don't announce your last name? See what your boss thinks of that.

Congrats on getting married. :)
You should take a poll with your listeners. If people called or e-mailed and said what they think your boss wouldn't be able to argue with your followers. Plus, I really don't think that anyone is going to care. I listen to talk radio and 2 out of the 5 people (both girls) have gotten married since I've been listening and they have their new names. It's totally not a big deal to us and it is to you. You should change it. :)
